Kiro is AWS's AI-powered IDE focused on spec-driven development. It uses .kiro/steering/ for project instructions with three inclusion modes (always, auto, manual), .kiro/hooks/ for event-driven automations, and supports AGENTS.md for cross-tool compatibility. Global steering resides in ~/.kiro/steering/. Now features MCP Registry Governance with JSON registry files for enterprise control, Agent Skills as portable instruction packages, and task execution hooks with pre/post-execution triggers. Kiro CLI v1.27 adds `/agent create` command and granular tool trust settings. Supports open weight models and document attachments (PDF, CSV, DOC).
