Cline is an open-source autonomous coding agent that runs as a VS Code extension. It supports workspace rules via a .clinerules/ directory containing .md and .txt files with optional YAML frontmatter for path-based scoping. Cline auto-detects rules from other tools (.cursorrules, .windsurfrules, AGENTS.md) and features a memory bank system for persistent project context across sessions. AgentConfigLoader (v3.67.0) adds file-based agent configurations. The Cline SDK API provides programmatic access to Cline features. Cline CLI 2.0 is a standalone service with gRPC API and multi-instance orchestration. Parallel tool calling support was added in v3.73.0.
